2 PhD stipends in Psychology in the context of CYBER EMOTIONS project

Description : Tasks Prof. Arvid Kappas is looking for 2 PhD students in the area of emotion psychology. The total duration of each stipend will be 3 years. Successful candidates will be engaged in the context of a large scale integrating project funded by the European Commission within the 7th Framework Program (ICT Call 3; Science of complex systems for socially intelligent ICT). CYBER-EMOTIONS: Collective Emotions in Cyberspace The CYBER-EMOTIONS project focuses on the role of collective emotions in creating, forming and breaking-up ecommunities. The project has begun in February 2009, and involves an international collaboration with eight other partner institutions. The tasks of the work package at Jacobs University involve primarily preparing, conducting, and analyzing experiments as well as presenting the results to an international audience. Specifically, this involves measuring emotional responses while participants read or produce Internet
contents or interact, in real-time, online with other users. Dependent variables involve a multi-level approach that employs self-reports as well as psychophysiological responses (facial EMG, electrodermal activity, heart rate) using Biopac recording equipment. More details regarding the overall project frame work and the consortium can be found at the web-site www.cyberemotions. eu Requirements Masters degree in psychology or equivalent; interest in socio-affective processes and methodological expertise as regards experiments and statistical analyses; interest in conducting psychophysiological experiments; academic excellence; enthusiasm; good communication skills. NotchIT is a 4-year FP7 European Union funded Project which was awarded to 7 academic and 1 industrial partners from 6 European countries to train young researchers at early stage of their career in the field of Notch signalling (total budget of the project is 3.4 million Euro).

NotchIT integrates expertise from several areas of developmental biology and pathology. Expertise in myogenesis, haematopoiesis, neurobiology, heart and vascular biology, tumour biology and molecular pharmacology is congregated in this project, providing a unique platform for interdisciplinary work.

Young researchers will be exposed to basic research - utilizing different experimental models from zebra fish to mice to clinical and translational research. NotchIT encourages participation at meetings, short-term exchange visits and interactions among laboratories through an attractive Training programme.

We invite applications for the following positions (16 in total):
1) Postdoctoral Research Fellows. Max duration 2 years
2) Research Fellows (no PhD required). Max duration 3 years
3) PhD students. Max duration 3 years

For all the positions, Marie Curie salary rates apply
